Care of bed linen
Trevira CS bedlinen is pleasantly soft and
non-irritant even to the most sensitive of skins. It is easy to clean,in hospitals as well
despite the difficult conditions obtaining there. It may be necessary to adjust the
following instructions to the particular laundry facilities available on site.
Preparation
Coloured articles and whites should be washed separately to avoid staining but similar
colours can be washed together without difficulty. Mixing Trevira CS with cotton fabrics
should be avoided as contamination with cotton fluff can alter burning behaviour. Load the
machine at a fill ratio of 1:12.
First wash
load/liquor: 1:6
water temperature: 30-40°C (heat
lowly, using cold soft water)
additives: non-ionic detergent in quantity recommended by
manufacturer
treatment time: 8-12 minutes
Second wash
load/liquor: 1:6
water temperature: 60-95°C (warm soft water). Articles
dyed appropriately can be boiled separately.
additives: non-ionic detergent as recommended by
manufacturer. If disinfection is required, wash thermo-chemically as recommended in para.
10c of the BSG, using peroxide or chlorine-based agents.
Rinsing
load/liquor: 1:8
water temperature: cool slowly to approx. 30°C to avoid
temperature shock and the resultant creasing. Then rinse at least once with cold hard
water. Small amounts of softener may be added to the final wash.
Spinning
Bedding made from 100% Trevira CS should have a residual water content of some 20% where 3
cylinder machines are used with no pre-drying. The moisture content can be a little higher
(30-40%) where calendering machines used have a pre-drying cylinder.
Calendering
This should be done straight after spinning as CS fabrics dry off very quickly. Washing
left for any length of time - overnight for instance - should be well covered. Calendering
speeds normal with polyester/cotton bedding should be used (20-25 m/minute). Due to the
rapid drying time of 100% Trevira CS bedlinen the cylinder temperature should be adjusted
to approx. 170°C, vapour pressure 8-10 bar. Dry washing should not exceed 120°C during
pressing, whilst care is taken that multi-folded bedding dries out thoroughly.
Sewing repairs
Use the same material as the original for patching. Reduce the sewing machine tension,
using 4-5 stitches per cm.
Alternative treatment for duvet
and mattress covers
spin: 3-5 minutes to leave residual moisture content
drying: in tumbler dryer with load 1:40. Set
temperature to 100°C, with expelled air not exceeding 90°C. After drying ventilate load
in tumbler with cold air.
dry cleaning: with perchlorethylene under easy-care
conditions without cleaning agents or other additives
disinfection: is possible following recommendations
laid down in BSG para.10.
